A few days in Norfolk was enough to dent the bank balance, but it did bring some good birds. Shore Lark were reliable, if never close, at Holme Dunes, although the Lapland Buntings there eluded us. A Desert Wheatear in Wells and Water Pipits at Cley and Titchwell were welcome new birds for the year The highlight was the sea, which had both seabird passage when the wind was strong and easterly, with Skuas, Sooty Shearwater and Leach’s Petrels, and migration when it was calmer, with two Short-eared Owls, three Woodcock and a Merlin coming in off.
